Sandy Island is one of Safaga's classic muck dives. It's not about big pelagics or dramatic walls here; it’s all about slowing down and looking for the small stuff. We’ve found cloth-of-gold cone snails tucked into the sand and watched snapping shrimp tend their burrows. The seagrass beds, a mix of *Thalassia* and *Cymodocea*, are brilliant for spotting juvenile fish and the occasional variable stromb. If you're lucky, and keep an eye on the blue, bottlenose and long-beaked dolphins sometimes cruise by, making a seemingly quiet dive truly memorable. This site is ideal for macro photographers or divers who appreciate the subtle beauty of a sandy bottom.
