JERSEY - Eilat

The Jersey wreck, sitting at a comfortable 12 metres, is one of Eilat's more approachable historical sites. We love it because it’s a proper piece of history, a steamship that met its end near Suez in 1942 thanks to a mine, then brought here. It's a relatively shallow dive, which means good bottom times and plenty of light to really appreciate the structure. You’ll find the wreck broken, but still very much a ship, with ribs exposed like ancient bones and a surprisingly intact boiler section that’s become a real apartment block for fish. Schools of glassfish shimmer in the darker corners, and lionfish often perch like sentinels on the superstructure. Our favourite part is finning along the bow, imagining the ship's final moments. It’s a site that suits anyone comfortable with basic wreck penetration – nothing too tight, just enough to feel like you’re exploring. Head out early to catch the best light and avoid any crowds.
