OPALIA - Eilat

The Opalia, sitting upright at 23 metres, is our pick for Eilat's most atmospheric wreck. This old landing craft, scuttled back in the 1970s, has settled into the sand, giving it a real sense of permanence, like it’s always been a part of the seabed. We love drifting down to her deck, often finding a big Napoleon wrasse eyeing us from a distance or schools of fusiliers swirling around the superstructure. What makes Opalia special is how accessible she is for exploration. You can fin gently through the cargo hold, where the light shafts down from the open deck above, illuminating the schooling glassfish that shelter inside. Keep an eye out for lionfish tucked into shadowy corners and the occasional moray eel peeking from a pipe. The deck itself is covered in soft corals and anemones, home to clownfish and damselfish, which really brings the metal to life. It's a fantastic site for anyone who enjoys easy wreck penetration and photography, offering plenty of interesting angles and marine residents. Go early to beat the crowds, and you'll have her all to yourself.
