TURKIA - Eilat

Turkia is a fantastic little wreck, and we love how accessible it is. It's just off the shore, sitting in only ten metres of water, so it's a perfect second dive or even a checkout dive if you want something more interesting than a sandy bottom. The wreck itself is a small tugboat, a victim of the 1967 war, so there's a real sense of history to it. You can explore the engine room, swim through the wheelhouse, and imagine the commotion when it went down. Our favourite part is the resident school of glassy sweepers that have made the interior their home. They swirl around you, catching the light as it filters through the openings – it’s a beautiful, almost hypnotic sight. Look closely, and you’ll spot nudibranchs clinging to the metal, and often a grumpy stonefish or two camouflaged on the deck. It’s a site that really shows how quickly marine life reclaims man-made structures. The currents are generally mild here, making it a relaxed dive, but we'd suggest heading out early to avoid any crowds from the nearby dive schools. It gets busy, but the wreck is worth sharing.
