BILAL (PROBABLY) - Tyre
Bilal (Probably) isn’t your typical big, intact wreck. She ran aground off Tyre back in '85 due to engine trouble and a storm, and what's left is now well-broken, scattered across the shallow seabed at just 8m. That means easy access for almost any diver, which we love. You'll find sections of hull, ribs, and machinery spread out, each piece now a home for something small. Our favourite part is navigating the twisted metal, imagining the ship whole, then spotting the nudibranchs and small crabs that have moved into every crevice. Visibility here can be a bit variable, especially after any strong winds, so we’d suggest aiming for calm mornings for the best light on the fragments. It’s less about penetration and more about slow, deliberate exploration, looking under ledges and peering into shadows. While she's called a "dangerous wreck" on paper, that's mostly due to her broken nature, not sharp hazards, though a good eye on buoyancy is always smart when you're this close to the seabed. She’s a fantastic site for macro enthusiasts or photographers who enjoy finding beauty in the details.

- 1985
- Vessel Type
- cargo ship
- Cause
- grounding
Resting in the shallow, clear waters off Tyre, Lebanon, the wreck known as the Bilal met its end in February 1985. The motor vessel was on passage from Larnaca, Cyprus, when it suffered an engine defect during bad weather. Powerless against the storm, it was driven aground and sank. Today, the wreck lies at a depth of just 8 meters, making it an incredibly accessible dive for all certification levels. Its shallow position allows for long bottom times and excellent natural light, perfect for underwater photography. While the vessel's history is modest, its location and accessibility make it a popular local dive site for a relaxed and fascinating exploration.
