Nitzan (Wreck) - הספינה התורכית - Tyre
The Nitzan wreck, often called the Turkish Ship by locals, is a proper introduction to wreck diving, especially if you’re new to the region. At a gentle 17 metres, it’s accessible to almost anyone with an Open Water cert. We love how the history here practically whispers to you, a sunken cargo ship from the late Ottoman era, now entirely given over to the sea. What you'll find is a surprisingly intact hull, broken in places but still offering plenty to explore. Schools of damselfish shimmer around the rusted superstructure, and we’ve spotted moray eels peeking from beneath twisted metal plates more times than we can count. Keep an eye out for octopus tucked into crevices, their camouflage a masterclass in blending in. The holds are penetrable for those with the right training, but even just circling the exterior, watching the light play on the barnacle-covered deck, is a treat. It’s a great site for photographers, too, with plenty of interesting angles and marine life that’s grown quite accustomed to divers.
