SUN SHIELD - Tyre

The Sun Shield lies at 25 metres off Tyre, a tanker with a dramatic past. Sunk in 1989 after being shelled and set alight while attempting to break a blockade, she was towed to Jounieh Bay before settling here. We find her upright and largely intact, a big structure that still holds the shape of a vessel. Entry points into the cargo holds are plentiful, offering the chance for some limited penetration if you’ve got the right training and gear. Around the superstructure, we’ve spotted schools of silversides shimmering in the light shafts, and resident groupers are often tucked into shadowy corners. It’s a good wreck for advanced divers looking for a piece of history and a decent exploration.
