GAVILAN - Jeddah

Gavilan isn't your typical Red Sea dive. This site is a historical curiosity, a shallow wreck sitting in just three metres of water. We'd suggest going at high tide to maximise your time over the structure, but even then, it's more of a snorkel and free-dive than a full scuba excursion. The ship lies broken, its iron ribs exposed to the sun, a skeleton picked clean by time and tide. We love exploring the twisted metal, imagining the wreck's story. It's a fantastic spot for photographers, the light playing through the shallow water casting dramatic shadows. Small schools of juvenile parrotfish dart through the beams and a resident moray eel often peeks out from beneath a plate. It’s not about big pelagics here, but the intimacy of discovery. If you appreciate history and a more contemplative exploration, Gavilan offers a unique perspective on the Red Sea's past.
