KAMRAN - Fujairah

The Kamran is one of those wrecks that just delivers. We’ve always had a soft spot for her. This old tanker, down since ’89 after a rough passage from Dubai, sits upright at 46 metres. It’s deep, sure, but the structure itself is so compact, 45 metres long, that you can really take in the whole scene. The bow section is our favourite, with those massive winches now encrusted, offering a home to all sorts of fish. What we love about the Kamran is the sense of history, how she just materialised out of the blue. You descend, visibility often around 15-20 metres, and suddenly this dark silhouette appears. Schools of fusiliers swirl around the superstructure, so dense they almost block the light. Inside the holds, if you’re properly trained and equipped for penetration, there’s an eerie quiet and sometimes you’ll spot a moray eel peering out. It’s a site for experienced wreck divers, no doubt, given the depth and potential for current, but it’s an honest, rewarding dive. We’d suggest hitting it early in the morning for the best chance of calmer conditions.
