UNITED VENTURE - Fujairah
The United Venture is an old tanker, and she’s a big girl, sitting upright at 30 metres. We love a wreck with a bit of history, and this one, originally built in '69, has certainly seen some seas before she was scuttled. Dropping down, the sheer scale hits you – 170 metres long, she’s a proper ship, not just a pile of rubble. We often find ourselves drifting along her deck, watching the schools of fusiliers swirling around the superstructure. There’s something special about seeing the light play off the metal, even at this depth. For us, the highlight is the bridge area, where you can still make out the outline of rooms, now home to pipefish and the occasional moray. Penetration isn't really the name of the game here, but there are plenty of swim-throughs and large openings to explore safely. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration, letting the scale of the vessel sink in. We always suggest keeping an eye out for the resident batfish; they're almost always hanging around the bow.
