Draga DHD 18 - Mar del Plata

The Draga DHD 18, a dredger that met its end off Mar del Plata, sits in a relatively shallow 11 metres. This makes it a really accessible dive, even for those newer to wreck diving. What we love about the DHD 18 is how light filters through the superstructure, creating these shafts of green and blue. You can navigate through the dredge’s interior quite easily, poking around the machinery and seeing how the ocean has slowly reclaimed it. Schools of anchovies often swarm the wreck, glinting in the light, and we’ve spotted various crabs tucked into crevices. It’s an honest, working wreck, now home to a surprising amount of life. We'd suggest going on a calm day; the visibility can be variable here, but when it’s good, the DHD 18 really shines. Look for the way the sea anemones carpet the metal, transforming the industrial into something quite delicate.
