The ESSO-NEUQUEN 4454, sitting just 6 metres deep, is a perfect wreck for an easy afternoon dive in Mar del Plata. We love its accessibility, making it a cracking spot for divers new to wrecks or those just wanting a relaxed dip without the depth. You’re essentially hovering over a former tanker, now nicely broken up, with large hull sections scattered across the seabed. It feels like swimming through a metal graveyard, but one that's surprisingly alive. Visibility here can be a bit variable, often better in the morning before any wind picks up. Look for the schools of silversides darting between the rusty plates; they reflect the light beautifully. We’ve found quite a few nudibranchs tucked into crevices, especially the colourful *Tritonia challengeriana*. Keep an eye out for the large crabs too, often lurking under overhangs. It’s not a deep penetration dive, more about exploring the external structure and the life that's made it home. We’d suggest going on a calm day for the best views, when the light really penetrates the shallows and makes the rust glow.
