FEGINA - Mar del Plata

Alright, let's talk about the Fegina in Mar del Plata. This isn't your deep, challenging wreck dive. It's something else entirely, a genuinely unique experience sitting in just three metres of water. We love the accessibility of it, and how the light filters through the surface, illuminating the rusted remains. You’re swimming through history here, not just over it. The Fegina was an old fishing trawler, sunk deliberately as a breakwater in 1968, and it’s now completely broken up, strewn across the sandy bottom. What you get is a scatter of metal plates, ribs, and machinery parts that have become home to a surprising amount of life. We've spent ages just poking around the nooks and crannies. Look for those small crabs scuttling between the twisted metal and the shoals of silversides darting in and out of the shadows. It’s a shallow site, so we’d suggest going at high tide for the best visibility, otherwise, the surge can really kick up the sand. It’s perfect for snorkelers or new divers wanting to explore a wreck without the pressure of depth. Our favourite part is spotting the anemones clinging to the hull sections, catching the sunlight. It's a quick dive, but full of character.
