LESBURY - Mar del Plata

The Lesbury wreck, just off Mar del Plata, is a real favourite of ours. It sits in a shallow six metres, making it approachable for almost any diver, and we love how the light plays on the structure on a sunny day. This old cargo ship, sunk in 1937 after a collision, is now a fantastic artificial reef. You'll find the main bulk of the hull pretty broken up, but there are still plenty of ribs and plates to explore. We always enjoy seeing the way the kelp wraps itself around the twisted metal, swaying gently with the surge. Keep an eye out for Patagonian blennies darting into crevices and the occasional Patagonian hake sheltering in the darker spots. It's not a deep dive, but the history and the way the sea has reclaimed it makes it genuinely compelling. Go on a calm morning; the visibility really improves, letting you properly soak in the wreck's character.
