The Maria Luisa wreck in Mar del Plata isn't your typical deep dive, not by a long shot. At a maximum depth of just one metre, this site is more about history and the sheer audacity of its presence than plummeting into the blue. We love how accessible it is, sitting right near the surface, practically begging you to get in. You'll spend your time here exploring the broken ribs of the old fishing trawler, feeling the surge around your legs as the Atlantic swells push and pull. It's an intimate experience, seeing the barnacles and mussels clinging to every rusted beam, and watching small fish dart between the metalwork. This is a site for those who appreciate wrecks for their story, not just their depth. The Maria Luisa feels alive with the ghosts of its past, and the current residents – blennies, small crabs, and the occasional curious octopus – have made it their own. Our favourite time to visit is on a calm, sunny morning when the light penetrates the shallow water, highlighting the wreck's skeletal remains against the sandy bottom. Be mindful of the surge; it can be quite strong here, even in relatively calm conditions. It’s an unusual dive, perhaps, but one that leaves a lasting impression, a stark reminder of the ocean's power and relentless reclamation.
