NORVEGIA - Mar del Plata

The Norvegia wreck sits just off the coast of Mar del Plata, a shallow dive at a mere two metres, but don't let the depth fool you into thinking it's simple. This isn't a beginner’s site, not really. It's an old fishing trawler, run aground many decades ago, and the sea has had its way with it. What remains is a tangled mess of rusted metal, a skeletal outline of a ship, constantly battered by the Atlantic swells. We love the raw, untamed feel here. Dive it on a calm day, if you can snag one, but even then, there's always movement, always surge. You’ll weave through the exposed frames, a dark silhouette against the often grey-green light. It’s less about bright colours and more about the drama of the wreck itself, the way the light filters through the structure. Fish dart between the corroded plates – we’ve seen schools of silversides hugging the shelter, and occasionally a grumpy scorpionfish tucked into a crevice. Our favourite part is navigating the skeletal bow section, imagining the ship in its former glory, then snapping back to the present with a bump from the surge. It’s a dive that demands respect, a quick dip into a piece of local history, and a good reminder that the ocean is always in charge.
