Pimera Maria Madre - Mar del Plata

Mar del Plata might not be the first place that springs to mind for a dive trip, but the *Primera María Madre* offers a quirky, approachable glimpse into the region's underwater history. Sitting at a shallow 4 meters, it’s a small fishing vessel, just under 13 meters long, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in character. We love this site for its accessibility and the way the local marine life has utterly embraced it. Dropping down, you’re immediately immersed in the hull's details. Rusting metal, twisted pipes, and the remnants of its working life create a series of nooks and crannies. We’ve spent plenty of time just poking around the bridge, imagining the crew on deck. It’s an ideal spot for macro enthusiasts; look closely and you’ll find an abundance of small crabs scuttling over the plates and tiny anemones clinging to every surface. The light penetration is excellent, illuminating the dense schools of silversides that often hover around the wreck, creating shimmering curtains of fish. Our favourite time to visit is on a calm, sunny morning when the light really plays through the superstructure, making the wreck feel alive. It's a perfect site for newer divers or those looking for a relaxed, shallow exploration. You can spend a good hour here, slowly circling, peering into every shadowy corner, without ever feeling rushed. It's a reminder that not every great dive needs depth or dramatic currents; sometimes, a little wreck with a lot of character is all you need.
