Lago Esmeralda
Why dive here
With 55+ marine species recorded in the area - including humpback whales - Lago Esmeralda offers some of Arraial do Cabo's richest diving. Water ranges 22-28°C, warmest January, February, March.
Lago Esmeralda is a flooded quarry, so you’re diving in a freshwater lake, not the ocean. It’s a deep site, dropping to 70 meters, which makes it popular for technical training and deep dive practice. Expect limited visibility and a distinct lack of coral or big marine life; it’s more about the unique environment of a deep, dark quarry. We’d suggest this one for divers keen on specific technical training, rather than those looking for a vibrant reef.
