Galeao Sao Paulo - Fernando de Noronha

La Farola is a site we keep coming back to in Bayahibe, especially when we’re looking for a slightly different vibe than the usual reef dives. It's a wall, dropping to around 17 metres at its deepest, but it’s the texture of that wall that makes it special. Think swiss cheese, but underwater. We spend most of our time poking around the hundreds of small holes and crevices. You’ll find blennies peering out, sometimes a shy puffer tucked away, and often a moray eel – their heads just visible. The larger schools of snapper and cero cruise by in the blue, occasionally eagle rays too, but our favourite part is the close-up hunting. Look for the delicate, almost translucent surfclams clinging to the rock, or the tiny beaded venus shells. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration and a keen eye, feeling less about grand vistas and more about intimate discoveries. For photographers, it offers fantastic macro opportunities, particularly in the quieter hours. We'd suggest going early in the morning for the best light and fewer other divers.
