Gindang - Komodo

L'arche is one of those spots that just sticks with you. We’ve always found it an electrifying dive, particularly when the current is pushing through the Grand Passage, bringing in the bigger pelagics. Dropping down, you’re looking for that huge arch, easily twenty metres high. It’s absolutely smothered in gigantic gorgonian fans, purples and oranges, swaying with the water movement. We’ve seen schools of dorado flash past, hunting, and often you’ll get a few grey reef sharks patrolling the deeper water just off the pinnacle. Look closely in the crevices and under ledges, that's where we’ve spotted electric flame scallops, their red mantle pulsing with light. The brain corals here are huge, ancient-looking things. It’s a dive for those who appreciate dramatic topography and the thrill of encountering larger fish, but with plenty of macro life if you take the time to hunt for it.
