Secret Garden - Komodo

The Outpost at the Poor Knights always delivers. We love the easy descent into the calm bay, then drift along as the seabed drops away to a vertical wall around 16 metres. The water here feels cooler, a rich green, and often has a slight current pulling you along. The wall itself is a tapestry of life, not bright corals, but a dense fuzz of anemones, sponges, and encrusting algae, with schools of demoiselles flickering in and out of crevices. We’ve had some memorable encounters with snapper and kingfish here, but our favourite moments are spent hovering, watching crayfish peer out from under ledges. It’s a great site for photographers who appreciate texture and smaller macro life, especially if you can get there early before the dive boats stir things up. Visibility can be a bit variable, but even on an eight-metre day, the sheer density of life on that wall makes it a compelling dive.
