Compass Divers - Lombok & Gili Islands

Compass Divers is a site we keep coming back to, not just for the wreck itself, but for the way it feels like a living history lesson. It’s an old fishing boat, nothing grand, but it's settled nicely onto the seabed, its wooden hull slowly becoming one with the reef. What you get here is a sense of time passing, of the ocean reclaiming its own. We love dropping onto the deck, maybe 15 metres down, and tracing the outline of what used to be the superstructure. Schools of fusiliers often swirl above, and we’ve found blue-spotted stingrays tucked into the sand nearby, their patterns really popping against the dark wreck. Keep an eye out for the pink anemonefish; they’re pretty bold here. The real charm is seeing how the staghorn and table corals have started to colonise the metal and wood, creating new little nooks and crannies for life. It’s a gentle dive, good for photographers who want to take their time exploring the details, or anyone who appreciates a wreck that's more about integration than drama.
