Paradiso / Air Harbour - Lombok & Gili Islands

The San Juan is one of our favourite Grenadian wrecks, not for its size, but for its resident marine life and the way it’s settled into the seafloor. This isn't a massive cargo ship; it’s a smaller inter-island vessel, about 24 metres long, lying broken up on a coral rubble and sand bottom. Hurricane Ivan gave her a good shake-up back in 2004, moving her some 200 feet west and tearing her open. This is what we love about her now. You're diving a wreck that feels lived-in, a proper artificial reef. The maximum depth is around 25 metres, so you’ve got good bottom time to poke around. We often find lobsters tucked into every crevice, and it’s not unusual to spot a small nurse shark snoozing under a piece of hull. Schools of jacks and French grunts swirl around the remains, their silvery bodies flashing in the light. Keep an eye out for a passing eagle ray gliding overhead, too; they like to cruise this area. The San Juan is a solid dive for anyone who enjoys exploring a wreck with plenty of small details and active fish life, rather than just admiring a ship from a distance.
