TRUEBLUE - Lombok & Gili Islands

Okay, so Trueblue. This isn't your typical coral garden dive, and it’s certainly not deep, but we love it for its sheer character. You’re looking at the remains of a yacht, beached in '76, now utterly absorbed by the shallows off Lombok. It’s pretty much a snorkel or a very, very shallow dive, maybe a metre deep at most, but don't let that put you off. What makes it special? It’s a complete time capsule, a piece of maritime history you can practically walk through. The hull has mostly disintegrated, but the skeletal ribs and some of the internal structures are still there, overgrown with sponges and encrusting corals. We’ve spent ages just poking around, watching juvenile reef fish dart in and out of the rusted metalwork. It’s a fantastic spot for macro photography – nudibranchs love to hide in the nooks and crannies, and you’ll often find small lionfish perched patiently on the beams. Go at high tide for the best visibility, otherwise, the surge can kick up the sand quite a bit. It’s perfect for new divers getting comfortable with buoyancy, or anyone who just wants a chill, interesting explore without the pressure of depth.
