Manta Sandy - Raja Ampat

Manta Sandy, despite its name, isn't really a muck dive in the traditional sense. It's more of a shallow, sandy channel that serves as a cleaning station for Reef Manta Rays. We usually drop in and drift along, watching as these massive, graceful creatures circle above the bommies, letting smaller fish pick parasites off their skin. It’s an incredible show, sometimes with half a dozen mantas in view at once. Keep an eye out for other sandy bottom dwellers too, like the occasional Fluted Clam, and if you’re lucky, a Denise's pygmy seahorse tucked into a gorgonian nearby. Visibility can vary, and strong currents are a real possibility, but if the mantas are there, it’s worth the ride. Best to go on a rising or falling tide for the most action.
