Pasir Tani Wreck - Perhentian Islands

The Pasir Tani Wreck is one of those sites that just feels right, a proper ship that’s become a home. We love a good wreck, and this one, a former fishing trawler, sits upright and largely intact, making it surprisingly accessible even for newer wreck divers. Down at around 20 metres, the hull is just bursting with colour. You’ll find schools of yellow snapper milling about, sometimes so dense you have to push through them, and the resident moray eels peer out from every nook and cranny. Keep an eye out for the crocodilefish often perfectly camouflaged on the deck plates – they're masters of disguise. Our favourite part is the engine room, which is still quite penetrable for those with the right training and comfort level. Sunlight shafts through openings, illuminating the ghostly machinery within, giving it a wonderfully eerie feel. We’d suggest going early in the morning before the dive boats really start arriving; the visibility tends to be better, and you get that peaceful solitude with just the fish for company. It’s a fantastic dive for photographers looking for interesting subjects and for anyone who appreciates the history and life that takes over these sunken vessels.
