TIDATARA - Perhentian Islands

Tidatara is a proper wreck dive, a motor vessel that went down in a storm, a bit of history sitting upright at 36 metres. We find it genuinely atmospheric, far more interesting than some of the more broken-up sites around. Drop down and you’ll find the bridge still largely intact, which is our favourite part to explore, the wheelhouse eerie and inviting. Look for the open hatches, where she took on water – a stark reminder of the vessel's final moments. The wreck itself has become a home for all sorts. Giant groupers often hang out in the shadowy holds, and we’ve seen schools of barracuda circling the mast on more than one occasion. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the story of a wreck, who enjoy a bit of penetration into the wheelhouse, and who are comfortable with the depth. Aim for slack tide; the currents here can pick up quickly, making for a much less relaxed experience if you time it wrong.
