Banayan Point - Apo Reef

Banayan Point at Apo Reef is one of those sites that always keeps you looking closer. We've spent dives here just hovering, scanning the substrate and the smaller coral heads, and consistently find something new. It’s not about the big pelagics, though you might catch a reef shark patrolling the deeper edge. Instead, focus on the little things: the surprisingly camouflaged rosy frogfish, the quick movements of a patchwork goby, or maybe even a fleck of color that turns out to be a sparse eviota. You’ll want decent buoyancy here, giving you the freedom to get low and appreciate the macro life without stirring up the sand. It’s a site for the patient observer, really, for those who get a thrill from spotting a well-hidden duncker’s pipefish or a tiny yellow-red pygmygoby darting between corals.
