Dogo Maru Wreck - Apo Reef

The Dogo Maru, resting somewhere around 30 metres, is our favourite wreck in Apo Reef, hands down. It’s got that ghostly, war-torn vibe, a freighter from WWII that’s been down there long enough for the ocean to really take it back. We love dropping down and seeing the hull draped in soft corals, purple and orange, with schools of batfish circling the mast like they own the place. You can spend a whole dive just picking your way through the superstructure. There are plenty of swim-throughs, not too tight, but just enough to feel like you're exploring. Keep an eye out for lionfish tucked into shadowy corners and moray eels poking their heads from the holds. It’s definitely one for experienced divers who appreciate history and a bit of mystery; the currents here can get a bit shifty, so good buoyancy is key. If you're lucky, and the visibility is playing ball, that silhouette against the blue is something else.
