Ego Wall - Apo Reef

Ego Wall is one of those places that gets its hooks into you, a sheer drop that just keeps going. We love how it starts shallow, maybe 5 metres, then plunges into the abyss, a solid vertical face covered in soft corals and sponges. You’re always looking out into the blue here, because that's where the action is. Huge schools of fusiliers and jacks cruise by, sometimes so thick they blot out the sun for a second. We’ve seen Oceanic Whitetips here more than once, just gliding past, completely unbothered. The wall itself is a tapestry of life, full of cracks and crevices hiding creatures like the shy Needle-tooth Moray or the bright Pink Squirrelfish. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff too, like the Arc-eye Hawkfish perched on coral heads, or the tiny Barred Blenny darting into its hole. It’s a drift dive, usually, with a gentle current that makes it feel like flying. We’d suggest going early in the morning; the light hitting the wall is just something else, and the bigger pelagics tend to be more active. This site really suits divers who appreciate a dramatic seascape and aren't afraid to spend some time looking out into the deep blue.
