Nashin - Apo Reef

Nashin in Apo Reef is one of those sites we always try to hit, especially if the conditions are playing ball. It’s not about huge pelagics here, though you do see the occasional reef shark cruise by. Nashin is all about the macro, the hidden details, and those moments where you just hover and watch the reef breathe. We love dropping in near the shallower coral bommies, letting the gentle surge rock us as we scan for the resident pearl-jawed cardinalfish sheltering in the crevices. The visibility here can be truly astounding on a good day, allowing you to appreciate the sheer density of life. We’ve spent whole dives just combing through a few square meters, picking out minute triplefins darting between corals and spotting the often-overlooked armed squirrelfish tucked under ledges. Keep an eye out for the yellowstriped cardinalfish, they tend to hang in shimmering schools. It’s a site that rewards patience, a slower pace, and a keen eye for the small stuff, making it perfect for photographers or anyone who enjoys really immersing themselves in the intricate ecosystem of a healthy reef. If you blast through it, you’ll miss the magic.
