With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including giant moray eels, sea turtles, sperm whales, lionfish and pufferfish - Rock Island offers some of Apo Reef's richest diving. Water ranges 28-30°C, warmest May, June, July.
Rock Island is a straightforward dive, topping out at 18m, which makes it an easy entry for newer divers or those looking for a relaxed afternoon. The main attraction is the small patch reef around a rocky outcrop, home to schools of snapper and occasional reef sharks patrolling the edges. We’ve found it’s a good spot for macro photography too, if you take the time to look closely at the coral bommies. It’s a gentle introduction to Apo Reef’s bigger sites.
