Danajon Bank - Bohol

Glaronísi, just off Hersonissos, is a particular favourite of ours when we're diving Crete. It's not a deep dive, but the reef structure is what really draws you in. We usually drop in on the east side, letting the gentle current carry us along a wall that's just plastered with crumb-of-bread sponges. They’re a bright, almost acidic yellow, glowing against the rock. Keep an eye out for hooded shrimp tucked into crevices; they're tiny, but their colours are amazing if you catch them in your torch beam. Further along, the reef flattens out into a series of big boulders, and this is where we've had our best luck spotting loggerhead turtles munching on seagrass. We've seen some impressive marbled spinefish here too, moving in schools, their silver scales flashing. It's a relaxed dive, perfect for photographers who like to take their time finding the smaller stuff, or anyone who enjoys a meandering drift along a healthy, vibrant Mediterranean reef. Go early in the morning for the best light, before the day boats get too busy.
