Elco Wreck - Bohol

The Elco Wreck off Bohol isn’t your typical massive freighter, and that’s precisely why we love it. This is a small, wooden-hulled cargo ship, resting upright on a sandy bottom, shallow enough that you can really take your time exploring. What you’re getting here is an intimate wreck dive, less about penetration and more about the delicate beauty of decay and rebirth. You’ll often find us hovering over the bow, watching batfish circle lazily. They’re nearly always there, big and inquisitive. The stern is partially collapsed, creating lovely little swim-throughs where schooling glassfish glitter in the torchlight. Sunlight dapples through the gaps in the hull, illuminating soft corals that have taken root on the timbers. It feels like swimming through a gentle, aquatic ghost story. Visibility can vary, but generally, it’s a calm site, perfect for photographers wanting to capture those moody wreck shots. We’d suggest going early in the morning, before the dive boats from Panglao stir up too much sediment, and definitely keep an eye out for nudibranchs along the railing. They love it here.
