With 496+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda, blacktip reef sharks, blue-spotted stingrays, bull sharks and octopuses - Cabakungan offers some of Dumaguete's richest diving. Water ranges 28-30°C, warmest June, July, October.
Cabakungan, near Dumaguete, is a gentle sloping reef, mostly sandy patches with coral bommies scattered through. We find it’s a good spot for beginners, topping out at 21m, with easy currents. Look for garden eels poking out of the sand, and we often spot pipefish tucked into the smaller coral heads. It’s a relaxed dive, good for getting back into things or extending bottom time.
