With 496+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda, blacktip reef sharks, blue-spotted stingrays, bull sharks and octopuses - Paliton Sanctuary offers some of Dumaguete's richest reef diving. Water ranges 28-30°C, warmest June, July, October.
Paliton Sanctuary is a solid choice for an easy dive in Dumaguete. It’s mostly a gentle slope down to about 22m, making it ideal for newer divers or those looking for a relaxed bottom time. We usually find plenty of nudibranchs here, tucked away on the smaller corals, alongside the usual reef fish like clownfish and various damselfish. Visibility is generally good, sometimes topping out at 20m, which helps when you’re hunting for those smaller critters. If you’re into macro photography or just want a straightforward, pleasant dive without strong currents, Paliton is a good shout.
