With 87+ marine species recorded in the area - including sea turtles, thresher sharks, lionfish and pufferfish - Gato Island offers some of Malapascua's richest diving. Water ranges 28-31°C, warmest May, June, July.
Gato Island is usually a multi-dive trip from Malapascua, and it’s worth the journey. The main draw is the small cave or tunnel that runs clean through the island, usually filled with whitetip reef sharks resting on the bottom. We also often spot banded sea snakes and robust ghost pipefish tucked away in the corals. Surface conditions can be choppy, but underwater it’s generally calm enough for most divers comfortable with overhead environments.
