ZENYO MARU - Koh Lanta & Phi Phi

The Zenyo Maru is big, truly big, and we love how much there is to explore down there. Dropping onto the bridge at 20 metres, the sheer scale hits you immediately. We often find ourselves just floating above the main deck, watching schools of fusiliers swirl like silver clouds. The torpedo impact point is a huge tear in the hull, a stark reminder of its wartime fate in 1942. Inside, the holds are dark, but torches illuminate swim-throughs where we’ve come across giant moray eels peeking from crevices. Our favourite part has to be the stern, where the prop shaft and rudder are still intact, covered in beautiful soft corals. The currents can be playful out here, so we always suggest a descent line and keeping an eye on your no-deco limits. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and don’t mind a bit of a current.
