Why dive here
With 173+ marine species recorded in the area - including blacktip reef sharks, eagle rays, giant moray eels, whale sharks and clownfish - Koh Hey/Coral Bay offers some of Similan Islands's richest reef diving. Water ranges 29-31°C, warmest April, May, June.
We often suggest Koh Hey, or Coral Bay as some call it, as a first dive in the Similans. It’s pretty shallow, topping out around 13 metres, making it perfect for getting comfortable again after a break or for newer divers. The reef here is mostly hard coral formations, with a good chance of spotting reef sharks cruising over the sand patches. We’ve seen plenty of blue-spotted rays tucked under ledges and often find cuttlefish changing colours right before our eyes. Visibility is usually decent, and the currents are typically mild, making it a calm start to a Similan trip.
