Prebens Platon - Similan Islands

Prebens Platon might not be as famous as some of the Similans' big names, but we think it’s a seriously underrated spot. It’s a series of large, granite boulders with some surprisingly robust coral growth in between. We’ve found the Blackedge thicklip wrasse here, a beautiful splash of colour against the granite, along with the Dapple Coris flitting around. What we really love is the sheer scale of the Staghorn coral patches. They aren’t just small clumps. These are sprawling structures, creating intricate hiding places for all sorts of smaller reef fish. Keep an eye out for the High Hat Triplefin. It's a tiny fish, but its distinctive dorsal fin really stands out if you take the time to look closely at the coral. We've spent entire dives just exploring the nooks and crannies here, finding Imposter Fangblennies peering out from their holes. It’s not a drift dive, which can be a nice change of pace in the Similans, allowing you to really slow down. This site is perfect for those who enjoy methodical exploration rather than just being swept along. You’ll experience a quieter side of the Similans here, often with fewer boats, which is always a bonus in our book.
