With 173+ marine species recorded in the area - including blacktip reef sharks, eagle rays, giant moray eels, whale sharks and clownfish - Purple Rock offers some of Similan Islands's richest diving. Water ranges 29-31°C, warmest April, May, June.
Purple Rock, up in the northern Similans, is exactly what it sounds like: a big rock, often with a purple hue from the resident soft corals. It's an exposed site, so expect some current, which helps bring in schools of fusiliers and trevally. Look closely among the rocks for nudibranchs and flatworms. This site is best for experienced divers comfortable in stronger currents.
