Coconut Gun Point is one of those sites we always circle back to, especially on a sunny afternoon. The name comes from the old World War II guns overlooking the channel on Horsburgh Island, a cool bit of history before you even get wet. Underwater, it’s a zig-zag through a network of coral ridges and sandy gullies, topping out at around 19 metres. Visibility here averages a solid 22 metres, which means you get to really appreciate the details. We love dropping in and letting the gentle current guide us through, spotting Epaulette Soldierfish tucked into crevices and the occasional sleek Unicornfish cruising past. Keep an eye out for the colourful Lady Musgrave Blenny darting amongst the stony corals. The blend of healthy Staghorn and Honeycomb corals makes for fantastic hiding spots, and we’ve often spent a good chunk of a dive just observing the smaller reef dwellers going about their business. It’s a relaxed dive, perfect for warming up or unwinding, and genuinely suits anyone looking for a pretty reef without challenging conditions.
