With 231+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda, blacktip reef sharks, blue sharks, grey reef sharks and manta rays - The Rip offers some of Cocos (Keeling) Islands's richest drift diving. Water ranges 27-29°C, warmest January, February, March.
The Rip is a great introduction to drift diving in the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. It’s a shallow run, capping out at around 9 metres, making it perfect for beginners or anyone who just wants an easy, relaxing cruise. We usually see a good variety of reef fish here, often including parrotfish munching on the corals and occasionally some smaller reef sharks patrolling the edges. It’s a gentle current, mostly, so you can just float along and take it all in without much effort.
