Why dive here
With 113+ marine species recorded in the area - including dugongs, grey reef sharks, humpback whales, sea turtles and tiger sharks - Pumpkin offers some of Coral Sea's richest reef diving. Water ranges 25-30°C, warmest January, February, March.
Pumpkin offers a decent Coral Sea dive, often described as a series of bommies rising from the seabed. We’ve found the hard coral formations here to be particularly interesting, attracting schools of reef fish and the occasional pelagic passing through. It’s a solid option for divers looking for a straightforward, relatively calm reef dive without extreme currents. Best suited for those who appreciate detailed coral topography over massive pelagic action.
