The Cathedral
Why dive here
With 113+ marine species recorded in the area - including dugongs, grey reef sharks, humpback whales, sea turtles and tiger sharks - The Cathedral offers some of Coral Sea's richest cave diving. Water ranges 25-30°C, warmest January, February, March.
The Cathedral, out in the Coral Sea, is exactly what it sounds like: a vast underwater cavern. You’ll fin through wide, swim-throughs and enormous chambers, bathed in the ethereal light filtering down from the surface. It’s a site for divers comfortable in overhead environments, offering a dramatic scale rather than intricate reef life. A truly unique experience if you’re looking for something different from your typical reef dive.
Safety Notes
Overhead environment - never enter without proper cave/cavern training, redundant equipment, and a guideline.
