Why dive here
With 154+ marine species recorded in the area - including hammerhead sharks, sea turtles, tiger sharks and napoleon wrasse - Hedge Reef offers some of Great Barrier Reef's richest reef diving. Water ranges 24-30°C, warmest January, February, March.
Hedge Reef offers a classic Outer Reef experience, with sprawling hard coral formations creating a maze of swim-throughs and small canyons. You’ll typically spot parrotfish grazing, snapper schooling, and the occasional whitetip reef shark patrolling the edges. It’s a good spot for divers comfortable navigating through reef structures, and it works well as a second or third dive of the day.
