With 154+ marine species recorded in the area - including hammerhead sharks, sea turtles, tiger sharks and napoleon wrasse - Hicks Reef offers some of Great Barrier Reef's richest reef diving. Water ranges 24-30°C, warmest January, February, March.
Hicks Reef sits on the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef, meaning currents can be a factor here. We’ve found the drift diving to be good, with plenty of pelagics often cruising by. Look out for grey reef sharks patrolling the drop-offs. It's best suited for experienced divers comfortable with deeper profiles and potential currents.
