With 154+ marine species recorded in the area - including hammerhead sharks, sea turtles, tiger sharks and napoleon wrasse - Holmes Reef offers some of Great Barrier Reef's richest reef diving. Water ranges 24-30°C, warmest January, February, March.
Holmes Reef sits well offshore, a proper open-ocean dive. It’s known for good pelagic encounters; we’ve often seen grey reef sharks patrolling the outer walls and schools of barracuda. The coral coverage is generally healthy, with plenty of hard corals structuring the reef. It’s a site for divers who appreciate the remote feel and the chance of bigger fish.
