Osprey Reef - Great Barrier Reef
Sha'ab Mahmud sits in the Strait of Gubal, a proper channel reef that can dish out a good current. We've often found it a handy second or third dive, a good drift when the conditions align. You'll find a nice hard coral wall, healthy and colourful, descending into the depths. Keep an eye out for larger pelagics here; we've had encounters with dolphins, even false killer whales on occasion, usually zipping by in the blue. It’s a solid choice for advanced divers looking for a bit of a ride and some open water excitement.
