Ribbon Number Six Reef
Why dive here
With 154+ marine species recorded in the area - including hammerhead sharks, sea turtles, tiger sharks and napoleon wrasse - Ribbon Number Six Reef offers some of Great Barrier Reef's richest reef diving. Water ranges 24-30°C, warmest January, February, March.
Ribbon Number Six offers a decent dive for those exploring the outer Great Barrier Reef. We typically see large schools of fusiliers here, often accompanied by barred trevally and the occasional great barracuda patrolling the edges of the reef. The coral structures themselves are a mix, with some nice staghorn and cauliflower corals providing cover for wrasse and emperor fish. It’s a comfortable dive, usually with mild currents, making it suitable for divers who appreciate seeing classic reef fish in their natural habitat without too much fuss.
